Dear colleague,
We’d like to bring your attention to our 2025 Dunlap Institute Summer
School. This internationally renowned program is an introduction to
astronomical instrumentation. The focus this year will be on radio
astronomy, though the topic will be different for future versions of the
Dunlap Institute Summer School. The program will be offered in-person,
at the downtown University of Toronto campus.
The dates for our 2025 summer school are July 21-25, inclusive. The
deadline to apply is January 31, 2025. The school includes both lectures
and labs, and is intended for students who have finished at least the
3rd year of an undergraduate program, or are in the early years of a
graduate program. It is best suited for those who have a background in
astronomy, physics, engineering, or a related program.
Students will:
- Gain foundational knowledge of radio astronomy and instrumentation
- Design and construct your own radio interferometer
- Explore the radio sky through hands-on observations
- Engage in both lecture-based and laboratory learning environments
- Collaborate with renowned international experts
- Discover career pathways in the field of instrumentation
- Work alongside peers from diverse international backgrounds
Please note that while the Dunlap Institute is able to provide travel
support and/or tuition waivers to some students, we encourage you to
assist students in exploring sources of funding from your institution or
country. Many universities offer student travel support in the form of
bursaries, grants or scholarships. This support is often available
through a local Dean’s office, Faculty office, graduate student union
or school of graduate studies.
We are very proud of our instrumentation summer school. It is a unique
experience—one that we’re confident can play an important role in
your student’s future. We have attached a poster that we encourage you
